Win more EV charger and electrification jobs in California — and earn more per hour

Stop losing bids to electrical panel upgrade quotes you didn’t want to write. Load management closes the job in days, costs the homeowner less, and pays you 2–3× more per hour than the upgrade.

Why electricians use load management

  • Higher close rate. When the customer hears “small device, same-day install” instead of “thousands for an electrical panel upgrade and a 3-month wait,” the close rate is dramatically higher.
  • Higher profit per hour. Per Stepwise’s published installer data, you earn 2–3× per hour on a load management install vs. an MPU. Less labor, fewer trips, smaller materials list, no utility wait.
  • Schedule certainty. Stepwise needs no utility coordination — same-day install. ConnectDER MSA needs a meter pull but typically only a 1-week wait. Both are dramatically faster than the multi-month MPU queue.
  • Less coordination overhead. No service upgrade application, no transformer review, no AHJ back-and-forth on service equipment sizing.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need utility approval to install Stepwise?

No. Stepwise installs behind your customer’s main panel and is not a service-side device. Pull your standard residential electrical permit through the local AHJ.

What about ConnectDER EV MSA?

The MSA is a meter socket adapter, so it requires utility coordination for a meter pull — but it doesn’t require a service upgrade application. ConnectDER is approved for installation in PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E territory. We send approval documentation per job before you order.

What’s the per-hour profit comparison vs. an MPU?

Per Stepwise’s published installer data, load management installs typically earn 2–3× per hour vs. an MPU. The math: smaller materials list, less labor, no service work, no utility queue time, no rework risk.

Can I sell either product as the upsell from a basic charger install?

Yes — both are commonly positioned as “the alternative to the panel upgrade” once you’ve assessed the panel and identified an upgrade would otherwise be needed.

Does the customer pay for the device or do I?

Either model works. Most installers buy at trade pricing and bill the device + labor + markup as a single line item. Some pass the device cost through at trade and only bill labor.

What support do you provide?

Pre-sale: utility approval letters, sizing guidance, install drawings. Post-sale: warranty escalation, technical support, replacement RMAs. All included; call (858) 367-3617 or use the contact form.

Can I list these on my own service menu?

Yes — both manufacturers allow installer-side branding and quoting. Ask us for marketing assets.
