During his 15 years at San Diego Gas & Electric, one of the most innovative utilities in the world, Josh led the commercial and regulatory efforts for 430 MWh of utility-scale energy storage projects, and the installation of 150 MWh in 2016-17 – including the largest lithium-ion battery project in North America (2nd largest worldwide). In addition to commercial transactions and project development, Josh led SDG&E’s overall energy storage strategy and regulatory efforts, shaping the policies that ultimately positioned SDG&E as a worldwide leader in energy storage.
Josh authored SDG&E’s energy storage procurement plans, enabling it to achieve its mandated procurement targets several years early, while adding significant amounts of clean capacity that cost-effectively improves reliability in the San Diego region.
Prior to his work with energy storage, Josh developed SDG&E’s Smart Grid Deployment Plan, managing the efforts and contributions of over 250 company leaders and staff, and producing a comprehensive strategic roadmap charting the utility’s progress toward a clean energy future. That plan and SDG&E’s efforts to achieve its vision has been shared with leaders in government and electric utilities worldwide, often inspiring or supporting their own efforts.
